HPCS Students Serve at Special Olympics

Special OlympicsWednesday April 20, 2016: 9-12th grade students from Hampton Park Christian School volunteered at our local (Area 4) Special Olympics. The Area 4 Special Olympics was held on the campus of Furman University and is the largest Special Olympics event in the state.  Volunteers and athletes came from all over Greenville County to participate in this fun day.

Our students assisted athletes from Thrive Upstate, in Fountain Inn, SC. When the athletes arrived they were paired with an upperclassman and a lowerclassman from HPCS. Before the opening parade the students and athletes had time to get to know each other. Each athlete had a schedule of events, and our students helped the athletes navigate the campus and arrive on time for their events. imageOur students cheered their athletes on and helped them back to their tent between events. Athletes and students ate lunch and enjoyed the beautiful day. When the athletes left, our lowerclassmen returned to campus and our upperclassmen stayed to assist in cleaning Furman University’s grounds.

Service is one of Hampton Park Christian School’s Core Values. We want to teach our students to be great by serving each other and our community.
