After graduating from HPCS in 2001, Megan (Gentry) Mallard attended North Carolina State University where she earned her B.S. in Meteorology. She continued her education at NC State and earned an M.S. in 2007 and her Ph.D in 2011, both in Atmospheric Science. Currently, Megan is working as a physical scientist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, focusing on computer models of the atmosphere and hydrological systems.
Some of Megan’s favorite memories of HPCS include confronting her stage fright each year at the Christmas program, working hard to get an A+ in Mr. Wynn’s physics class (she had just realized she wanted to be a scientist), and going on her senior trip (it was her first time to New York City).
When asked if she had any advice for current students, Megan said, “enjoy your time in a close-knit, supportive community that values your faith. Learning the value of community and your relationship with God will serve you well when you step out of high school and into the wider world.”
Megan married her husband, Ben, in 2011. Their daughter, Katherine, was born in January 2016. The Mallards attend Lifepoint Church in Cary, North Carolina and are active in the Carolina Canoe Club, which promotes enjoyment and conservation of rivers. Megan would appreciate our prayer for the continued health and safety of her family, especially her little girl.
