Dear HPCS Family,
I wanted to take a moment to fill you in on some personnel changes for next year here at Hampton Park.
We’re saddened that Mrs. Luann Whitaker and Mr. Wayne Hallberg will be retiring after this school year. Each of them started teaching at HP in the early 70s, and their faithful service to scores of students leaves an incredible legacy. Mrs. Whitaker has taught 1st grade and K5 and also served as our lower school supervisor. She has been a tremendous blessing to me personally and to all her students and colleagues.
Mr. Hallberg teaches social studies and has served as the upper school principal. Our upper school students love Mr. Hallberg’s passion for history and his genuine love for each student. We’ll miss both of them very, very much, but we’re excited about what God has for them in this next phase of life and ministry. After teaching nearly 90 combined years, I think both of them deserve a little change of pace!
Miss Teresa Caldwell will also be transitioning away from HPCS after directing our child care program for over twenty years. And Mrs. Cara Sprouse will be stepping aside from teaching 3rd grade to have a baby due in September. Teresa and Cara will also be sorely missed.
Though we’re saddened to see these move on, we’re excited about who will be coming on board to fill their shoes.
First, I’m pleased to announce that Patty Fitzgerald will become our lower school supervisor in a full-time capacity. Patty is an experienced teacher and administrator and will step right in where Mrs. Whitaker left off. Now that the position is full-time, it will help give even more attention to developing and growing our lower school. For the K5 teaching position being vacated by Mrs. Whitaker, I anticipate being able to make an announcement very soon regarding a replacement.
For the 1st grade position vacated by Mrs.Fitzgerald, I’m excited to announce that Mrs. Michelle Slieff will be coming on board. Michelle is an HP mom, her degree is in special education/elementary education, and she has SC certifications in el ed and special ed. She’s been teaching for the past three years at Gateway Elementary in TR.
Mrs. Katie Loach has accepted the 3rd grade position. Katie is Mrs. Sarah Howell’s sister and an HPCS alumnus. She’s been teaching for the past thirteen years at Plain Elementary and Welcome Elementary and has her SC certification in el ed. Mrs. Loach is an experienced and accomplished teacher, and I know you’ll love her.
I hope to have an announcement for you shortly regarding the child care director position.
And we are still accepting applications for the upper school social studies position. Please pray that the Lord will direct us to just the right person for this important spot.
Have a wonderful day,
